How much of a Tax Rebate will I get?
The exact amount of your rebate will be mailed to you in a letter from the IRS this summer. While we have been led to believe that each American family will receive $400 for each child, this is actually a maximum. The actual rebate will be calculated so as not to exceed the taxes you payed for 2002.

Poor folks are already getting a tax rebate so why should I give them mine too?

A family will get $400 per child if they have at least that much in tax liability in 2002. The persons and families with the lowest incomes will get no rebate and most of the 2003 "tax relief" will go to the wealthiest Americans.

According to Citizens for Tax Justice, "More than two-thirds of the bill’s tax cuts will go to the best-off 10 percent of all taxpayers, and well over half will go to the top five percent. In contrast, the bottom 60 percent of taxpayers will get only 8.6 percent of the tax cuts, averaging less than $100 a year over the next four years."

So, what should I do with my tax rebate dollars?

That choice is up to you. We suggest you take into account what you wish the government would do with your tax dollars, and act accordingly. If you think the poor are being treated fairly and justly, then go buy that new golf club. If you think your tax dollars would better be used caring for the needy among us, then give your tax rebate to a responsible organization that provides direct services to people in financial need.
